We attended Xmas party at Kaz's place. Aislee grabbed papa's cup and started drinking water. It was first time to drink from cup.

土曜日にカズさんちでのクリスマス・パーティーに参加しました。いきなりコップを持って水を飲みはじめました。初めて、コップから飲みました。だんだんいろんな事を覚えるのですね。

A few weeks ago Aislee, her papa and I visited Mia and her parents. We had a lovely dinner followed by Beard Papa cream puffs - yum! Baby Mia and Aislee fell asleep afterward while listening to lullabys. In this photo both Papas are holding their daughters.

Enjoying swing time

...well, not really.

After five minutes, Aislee had enough of the swinging back and forth. She was quite happy in the beginning though.

She is wearing a one piece footed doggie pajama and wrapped in a matching blanket from Gymboree. It was a lovely present from her auntie 'chelle. We like that it keeps her feet covered and warm...also she can't pinch us with her toes.

Update 10/12/2008 - This swing is a lifesaver! I'm able to place it at the bathroom entrance while I shower. Before, she would cry when I left her in the baby bed. ***** (5 stars) for that alone :)

What a difference a month makes!

Just a month ago, Aislee was smaller than one of our pillows. It's difficult to tell from this photo, but she's laying on a pillow which is resting on my lap while I try to get some work done. Not even stretched out, she's longer than the pillow now!

Today we went to Palo Alto to pick up her portable Fisher Price Rainforest swing (pictures to follow). There we met a 10 month old little boy who was only slightly larger than she was. In just 1.5 weeks, she'll officially be an "infant" at 3 months old and no longer considered a "newborn".

Today Aislee was registered as Japanese citizenship at Consulate-General of Japan in San Francisco. She has dual citizenship now and will need to choose USA or Japan by 22 years old.

麗華さんの出生届けをサンフランシスコ総領事館でいたしました。現在、アメリカと日本の二重国籍ということになります。２２歳までにどちらにするか選ぶことになります。

Professional sock removal

Aislee will not be adding socks as one of her "picks". Apparently she is not a fan of this type of clothing. After much crying and screaming, I finally was able to put a pair of socks on her for the first time. Since the weather is starting to get cooler I thought she'd prefer to have warmer feet, but 12 minutes after putting them on her, she managed to get one sock off by herself and was using her toes to pick the other one off.

Luckily I had my camera phone in my hand to take this picture, because I couldn't stop laughing... Where do babies learn these skills?

On the way to buy watermelon

Here's a recent photo of Aislee bundled up in her Graco carseat from her aunt, uncle, and grandmama. We were on our way to Campbell's Farmers' Market to buy watermelon, pluots, and the best hummus from Aqui (also located in downtown Campbell).

She's growing quickly and is fluctuating around 10 pounds...still feeding every 2.5 to 3 hours.

Aislee's body size is still smaller than pillow. It looks very funny to ocupy queen size with pillow size baby.

麗花さんのサイズは、枕よりも小さいです。そんな小さな体で、クイーンサイズのベッドに寝ているのを見ると、とてもおかしいように思います。

Yet another sleeping baby picture

Monday was Aislee's fourth week / one month out of the womb! She is still sleeping quite a bit, but manages to stay awake about 25% of the time (sometimes at 4 a.m. -_-).

A few posts earlier, I mentioned Colic-Ease Gripe Water. The stuff really works on hiccups. This baby was hiccuping in the belly, after she eats, after she cries, and occasionally just for no reason at all. The book "What to Expect the First Year" mentions that all that hiccuping does not bother the baby. Well, it definitely bothers this one.

Since Aislee was born, she's smiled and laughed (out loud and silently) in her sleep. In her waking moments, she's pretty quiet except for crying when she's hungry, needs a diaper change, and/or is bored of being in one place.

I mentioned to my dear friend yesterday, I don't remember having done this much laundry in my life, that goes for dishes too. Cloth diapers are bum-friendly (when changed frequently), but it seems as though we go through up to 20 diapers for changing and wiping up daily. At night, I prefer to use disposable so I don't have to struggle with the little plastic panty that goes over the cloth diaper. I just placed an order on BabyCenter's store for five all-in-one newborn diapers. They're made of cloth with the plastic liner attached and they close with velcro like disposables. Hopefully they'll make the whole changing easier on both of us.
I've got to remember not to comb her hair to the side. She looks like a little boy with it parted that way...

Awake and alert

As of two or three days ago, Aislee has been more awake and alert. Since her time in the hospital, she has been feeding almost always from a bottle. This creates bubbles in her stomach that burping does not always help and makes her colicky and uncomfortable. I just ordered Colic-Ease / Gripe Water, an herbal supplement that is supposed to help hiccups and gas in infants...and in larger doses, adults. At some point, I'll pick up the belly band from Babies R'Us that is also recommended by many moms. One of the worst things is seeing your baby in discomfort and unable to rest well.

Below is a picture of Aislee with her eyes open. I know I sound like every other parent, but she really is cuter in person.

This photo isn't nearly as embarrassing as the one of me after I'd given birth (thanks Honey). Here Aislee and dad are catching up on sleep. For the first few days all of us were on the same sleep schedule.

We had decided to use cloth diapers as they seemed kinder to baby's skin and the environment; however, at the moment we're using disposables for convenience. At first, we were advised to use Pamper's Swaddlers for newborns, but Aislee's backside looked irritated and red after using Huggies and the Pampers. We lucked out on finding Seventh Generation disposables. They're made with softer material and are latex free. The ruffle that hugs the thigh is so cute too!

Every day she looks different and is growing very quickly. 90% of my photos are of her sleeping since my hands are full when she's awake either feeding, burping, changing, or holding her.

She laughs and smiles a lot while sleeping. These past two days she's been much more alert and taking in her surroundings. I'll try to post pictures of her with her eyes open.

When she was still in the belly, I used to place headphones against it and play lullabyes...not the typical ones, but songs that have been converted from our favorite artists like The Cure, Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins, etc. She seems to fall asleep and relax easier when I play the same music now.

We planted Aislee's peach tree with placenta and umbilical cord. The peach tree is very special. It is multi grafted. Heavenly white nectarine, Arctic supreme white peach, White lady white peach, Arctic rose white nectarine are on Lovell peach rootstock.

麗花ちゃんの桃の木を植えました。胎盤とへその緒も一緒に植えました。特別な桃の木で、２種類の白桃と２種類の白ネクタリン、合計４種類の実のなる接木されている木です。便秘はよくなったようです。
