How to stay focused.

Are you focused all the time?

 

Have you experienced forgotten something you were going to do just after a couple second? Does it happen to you often?

 

How do you feel when it happened to you?

 

A person asked me consultation about how to stay focused. It is very important for me too. My business is glyconutrients, but I have another profession as software engineer over 10 years.

 

When I work seriously to write a code, spec, advertising & letter to customer, I have to listen inspiration or internal voice. It is small voice. When I don't have clear mind, I cannot capture.

 

It is brain work and not physical work. Even we are using computer, not all of them are brain work. Brain work takes more focus. I've read research somewhere brain work used 7 times energy more than physical work.

 

Here's some advice for you.

  • Step 1: Single focused mind
  • Step 2: Multi task focused mind (freedom)
  • Step 3: Daily life effort 

Step 1: Single focused mind

  • No BGM (back ground music) or TV
  • Avoid interruption (E-mail, chat, phone call, text message, etc)
  • Work at the time you can focus without interruption
  • Hold or minimize your breath
    You can listen more carefully. But if you have heart issues, don't do this.

Coding program is very similar to how computer runs the program. It loads all information in the memory and execute step by step. For coding, it's better to load all information in your head and write a code step by step.

 

If you get interrupted from something just a couple minutes, you will loose the focus. To load the information and get same state of mind, it takes 20 min or some time one hour.

 

But we get interruption all the time. So if you can save your mind state and switch focus like Windows application, you have much more flexibility for your mind.

 

Step 2: Multi task focused mind (freedom)

  • Use to do list to forget unnecessary things
  • Use mind map to lay out all ideas
  • Make your life simpler (ex park your car same location)

 Lastly you can promote your mind by daily effort

 

Step 3: Daily life effort

  • Eat good food
    Our body is made by food. Life grows by life.
    So eat food with life, like a raw vegetable & fruit, whole grains.
  • Avoid sugar spikes from high glycemic food
  • Avoid junk food and drinks
    There're reasons to be called junk. Unfortunatly it is true.
  • Do meditation
    Reset your mind. Computer needs reboot sometimes too.
  • Listen to your body and avoid stress
  • Take glyconutrients
    Science has proven the effects on brain

 I'm an amateur of meditation. But I have some experience. Visualization would help. Also some meditation with your eye open would be helpful. There're 2 steps. 

  1. Concentration
    Concentrate to just a small point. You can imagine Japanese art of archery or sniper. You'll feel the tiny point is getting bigger.
  2. Integration
    This is second step of concentration. Concentration is focusing on just a small point. Integration is focusing on all surroundings.

Well I'm still in progress of learning these. I felt much difference even after

a couple practice. So I recommend you to try some of these methods.
